And to my absolute horror, the game had reset itself. Suddenly, in my moment of triumph, the power flickered in the house. Just had to hang on through about an inning and a half. It was the closest either of us had ever come in probably 5 or 6 years, which in those days was nearly half our lives. Playing the game on my Super Gameboy, with my good friend present, I managed to get a narrow, 2-1 lead (I believe as the away team) against the machine and held it into the 8th inning. So we kept getting sucked back in to try again. We were convinced it simply could not be done, but we were able to hold it to a one run win not too infrequently. It seemed like everytime you would get a lead, later in the game the machine would always, always hit a grand slam or something to take the lead back. A good friend of mine and I would play it a fair bit just trying to win a game against the machine but for literal years neither of us could do it.
